There Are Many
Ways to Belong Here.

Whether you live around the corner or across
the world, this community has a place for you.

The monastery is not just a building on Memorial Drive. It is a community, and communities extend far beyond their walls. Over the years, thousands of people have found their way into the orbit of SSJE: through a daily meditation that arrives in their inbox, through a retreat that changed something in them, through a fellowship group in their city, through a single Sunday Eucharist they haven’t forgotten. However you have found us, we are glad you are here. There are many ways to connect with us.

Daily and Digital

You don’t have to come to Cambridge to pray with us. Our digital ministry brings the life of the monastery to you, wherever you are.

Brother, Give Us a Word
Every day, a Brother offers a short meditation — a word for the day rooted in Scripture and the monastic tradition. It arrives in your inbox each morning, free of charge.

Join the Wider Community

The Fellowship of Saint John
The Fellowship is the formal community of friends and associates of SSJE — people who share our commitment to prayer and who want to stay connected to the life of the monastery in a structured way. Members receive mailings, gather for events, and are held in the community’s prayers.

Young Adult and Student Ministry
If you are a student or young adult, we have a particular welcome for you. Located minutes from Harvard Square, we have been in conversation with young people at crucial moments of their formation for over 150 years. Come and see what that looks like.

Invite a Brother Over
The Brothers are available for preaching, teaching, leading retreats, and other ministry beyond the monastery walls. If you would like to invite a Brother to your parish, diocese, or community, we welcome your inquiry.

A Different Kind of Belonging

Some people who find their way to SSJE begin to wonder whether they are being called to something more — not just to visit, but to stay. If something in these pages has stirred that question in you, we take it seriously. The Brothers welcome men who want to explore a possible vocation to monastic life. The process begins simply, with a conversation and without any pressure.
